The Big Wig and Other Excuses Why Senior Creators Avoid YouTube
Helping senior creators show up even when they don’t feel camera-ready
So, you know how everyone’s got a laundry list of reasons they can’t hop on YouTube? From not enough time, not tech-savvy, not enough budget, or maybe just not enough confidence to show their face? Well, let me tell you, I’ve been right there with you. In fact, let’s just say I’ve got a few bonus reasons of my own. And here’s the star of the show: a wig that looks like it wandered off a sitcom set. I thought, “Hey, maybe a wig will fix my thinning hair days and make me YouTube-ready in a snap.” Spoiler alert: now I’ve got a wig so long I could trip over it and so full I’m practically hiding behind it. But hey, at least it gave me a good laugh.
Now, let’s get real for a second. I never adored being on camera myself. Chubby cheeks, a New York accent that just won’t quit, hair that’s always begging for a touch-up, and let’s not even start on the days I just don’t feel like putting on makeup. If you’ve got a reason not to hop on YouTube, trust me, I’ve probably got it too.
But here’s the kicker: Just recently, life threw me into a situation where I couldn’t make videos, and I realized a ton of people are just like me. I spent a bunch of time in a hospital helping a friend, couldn’t record videos like I wanted, and started thinking: we all need a way to show up as ourselves, wig mishaps and all. Enter the world of AI and digital twins!
Because sometimes, it’s not about having the perfect hair day; it’s about just showing up as you are—or as your AI avatar! More to come on that topic next time!
Now, for those who never wanted a YouTube channel for some reason—maybe you thought you couldn’t do as good a job as others—there’s always a solution to make it happen. This is a new time for YouTube. It’s less about having a perfectly groomed essence and more about just being yourself and letting people know the real you. In fact, having a lot of subscribers isn’t even the top goal anymore. What’s really popular now is strong engagement. Are people interested in your topic? Are they commenting, sharing, and relating to what you say? That’s what really matters these days. And I’m here for it.
So, if you’re out there hesitating, remember that it’s all about being real. Someone out there needs to hear what you have to say, wig or no wig. What’s holding YOU back? Give it up and let’s do this!
And hey, if you’re ready to create your YouTube identity and reach your people, I’m here to help you make those connections and build those raving fans. Just reach out!
I want to thank the members of my Senior Tuber Community who insisted I try on my new wig in front of them during our Zoom call and then snapped a shot of it – or this photo or content would never have been born.
